One particular matchup that peaks St-Pierre's interest in the potential to face off with the victor of the upcoming UFC 229 main event between lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.

The "Notorious" has not fought in the UFC since November 2016, when he beat Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title and became the first fighter to hold two titles simultaneously.

The highly anticipated match-up was announced on Friday after months of speculation, and has already been dubbed the "biggest fight in UFC history" by the head of the promotion, Dana White.

McGregor also has resolved his legal troubles after throwing a hand truck at a bus containing UFC fighters during a one-man rampage last April at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

McGregor ultimately received a plea deal and was sentenced to five days of community service and ordered to attend anger management courses. "However, I fought at 170, and I relinquish the title; I fought at 185, and I relinquished the title; I don't think the UFC will let me fight for the title at 155".

McGregor and Nurmagomedov will meet in the main event of the UFC 229 pay-per-view show at T-Mobile Arena, the same spot where Mayweather stopped McGregor in the 10th round of their one-sided prizefight.

He added that the door to dialogue is open, but that talks have to be based on mutual respect and equality. The duties, initially announced last month, would not be imposed until after a period of public comment.

Regardless of the wild antics that lead up to the fight, the two should make for quite a bout. McGregor's standing as one of the most bankable stars on the planet probably helped his cause, too, and the build-up to this event promises to be intriguing, at the very least. White laughed. "He's obviously lost lots of money". McGregor didn't immediately react to the bout announcement on social media.

"It's time to roll", Diaz said following his own two-year absence.

McGregor himself has said recently that he would prefer to fight in Madison Square Gardens again, but conceded that he believed his next fight would be in Las Vegas.

"Suspended? He hasn't fought in 2 years". But it seems time and no lack of contrition from McGregor has softened the UFC president's stance as he told ESPN: "Conor came and did what he did and didn't expect the results that happened".

Oddly, Diaz later tweeted that he actually won't be fighting as part of the card.
