Trump to get red carpet treatment in Britain

U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in "hot spot" Britain on Thursday after casting doubt on Prime Minister Theresa May's plans for leaving the European Union and with protests planned across the country where he says the people like him a lot.

There are fears that demonstrations over Trump's three-day visit to the United Kingdom, where he will meet with British Prime Minister Theresa May and Queen Elizabeth, could turn violent.

On Friday evening, Trump and the First Lady whisk up to Scotland for a weekend of golf and relaxation - and more protests outside his resort.

Protesters intend to fly a large balloon over parliament portraying Trump as an orange, snarling baby.

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan challenged Mr Khan over the decision, suggesting the mayor had approved of the blimp due to personal animosity towards the US President, the Daily Mail reports.

Publican Damien Smyth is an unabashed Trump fan and came up with the idea over a few late-night drinks with a friend.

The antipathy between Trump and segments of the British public started during the 2016 presidential campaign, when Trump called for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States.

After a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit where he provoked a crisis session to force allies to raise their defense spending, Trump landed in Britain having described the closest USA ally in Europe as being in turmoil over Brexit.

Ahead of his visit, Trump said Britain was "in somewhat turmoil" as the PM grappled with a political crisis.

Safety alerts are normally issued to foreign citizens by their embassies in times of political instability, terrorism, and natural disasters; but the USA embassy in London has had to issue a "demonstration alert" on Tuesday ahead of planned protests for July 12 to 14.

His strangest comments however came earlier this year as he spoke at a pro-gun rally in the US.

Asked in Brussels about the massive demonstrations expected at the next stop of his European trip, Mr. Trump said it was "fine" that there were protests planned.

The bulk of the activity will take place in London, where people plan to gather first in Regent's Park outside of the US ambassador's house on Thursday and again across central London for a series of protests throughout the day on Friday.

Trump "has proudly sparked passionate often divisive emotions about things, I think Americans living here to eager to turn out and express their views", he said. We are living in very volatile times and so I hope nothing gets out of hand and I hope people can act civilly. After the visit, Trump will decamp to Finland for a one-on-one with Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 16.

Mr Trump raised eyebrows when he went out of his way to praise Boris Johnson after resigning as foreign secretary, while insisting it was up to the British people whether Mrs May remained in office or not.

On Friday, May and Trump will visit a defense site then travel to the prime minister's Chequers country residence for talks followed by a press conference.
