The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection ( CAL FIRE) in a release issued at 7.30 p.m. local time (10.30 p.m. EDT) said, "Fire is 1000+ acres and 0% contained with multiple structures threatened".

Authorities estimate at least 20 homes have burned in a wildfire raging in the hills above Goleta in Santa Barbara County.

One of the largest fires burning is the Klamathon Fire in Siskiyou County, which was up to 22,000 acres as of Saturday evening and just 20 percent contained. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

California Gov. Edmund Brown declared a State of Emergency in Siskiyou County Thursday just after 9:30 p.m. At least 2,200 people were evacuated in the Goleta area, officials said. Showers and thunderstorms Saturday afternoon dropped.1 inches of rain in El Jebel and lighter amounts of the southeastern portion of the fire.

The Klamathon fire has forced authorities to evacuate much of the town. He said he hadn't yet told his two oldest children their home was gone. It was 37 percent contained early on Friday, officials said.

A fire that jumped across Interstate 5 south of the OR border in California has closed the southbound lanes in that area, authorities said.

Forward spread has been stopped on the Irish Fire that flared up in Amador County Friday.

Firefighters battling wildfires throughout the U.S. West that have torched hundreds of homes got some help from the weather Saturday, even as they tallied damage from new fires that erupted amid a Southern California heat wave.

But Santa Barbara County isn't the only county to receive assistance from Cal Fire SLO.

Firefighters also battled blazes in Alpine, Camp Pendleton, the San Fernando Valley, Cajon Pass, Forest Falls and Montecito Heights. A map from the department shows they span from the OR border south to San Diego County; from the west, in Santa Barbara County, to the east, on the border with Nevada. It marked the first fatality of the fire season in California.

Elsewhere in California, the 138-square-mile (357-square-kilometer) County Fire northwest of Sacramento was almost 50 percent contained.

Crews also had 50 percent containment of a southwestern Colorado fire that has blackened 85 square miles (220 square kilometers) north of Durango.

In northern California, near the OR border, an 8,000-acre fire has killed one person.

"We bring the retardant to the firemen, but those folks on the ground, the men and women on the ground, they're really doing the tough work" he said.
