LeBron James is joining the Lakers: What is your reaction?

National Basketball Association superstar LeBron James has signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, leaving his hometown team the Cleveland Cavaliers for a four-year $154 million deal, according to Klutch Sports Group, the company run by his longtime friend and agent Rich Paul.

Fellow Laker Kyle Kuzma tweeted his welcome to Los Angeles.

In Los Angeles, James can play with a young core that has been developing over the last few years as the Lakers struggled to return to prominence.

But the Lakers will instantly rise with James, a three-time champion who after being swept by the Warriors in this year's NBA Finals said he is still driven and very much in "championship mode". He also took a decidedly quieter approach, with the sports agency founded by his agent, Rich Paul, releasing a simple press release.

Why did James sign with the Lakers?

James could single-handedly help to end the Lakers' woes, having been outside of the playoffs for five years - the longest period in the illustrious franchise's history. Capela is a restricted free agent, which means the Rockets can match any offer the Lakers or another team make. The latter two have partial guarantees on their contracts that season.

James' decision will catapult the Lakers up the title-contending ranks. Whether they land Leonard or not, having James in a market like LA is the ultimate recruiting tool to bring other star players aboard.

The 33-year-old James is coming off a season in which he averaged 27.5 points per game with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Los Angeles also provides James with a larger platform for his business interests and social activism. It was good enough to finish second in the voting for this season's Kia MVP, an award he's already won four times previously.
