The rapper is now awaiting trial on domestic violence charges and was recently freed by a judge after being incarcerated for witness tampering in the case. He routinely got into fistfights with fans at his concerts.

Following news of his death on Monday, many fans shared a video Onfroy had posted to Snapchat in which he discussed the kind of legacy he wanted to leave. "You were a true artist, one of the most f-king talented of our time".

In May, he was one of the artists temporarily banned from Spotify's in-house playlists due to its policy of not promoting artists with a history of alleged hateful conduct.
