Manchester United 'table £17.4m bid for Porto's Diogo Dalot'

United have resolved to meet Dalot's buyout clause of €20 million (£17.5m/$23m), and a source close to the operation says the Red Devils are hoping to have the deal done before the week is out.

Dalot, the Porto right-back, has only eight senior appearances to his name, but United scouts are said to have been impressed by the teenager having watched him throughout the season.

Dalot has been capped by Portugal at every age group from U15 to U21 level and made his first team debut for Porto in a 6-0 away win over Lusitano G.C in October of past year.

José Diogo Dalot Teixeira, known as Dalot was in October voted as Porto's Young Player of the Year and is rated as one of the best young talents in world football.

Manager Jose Mourinho believes the Portugal Under-21 worldwide right-back can provide competition for United captain Antonio Valencia.

Manchester United are reportedly interested in Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba. He makes sense as a good fit for United, as Matteo Darmian will likely be moving on this summer, and Luke Shaw's future is up in the air.

Contact between the clubs has been made and it seems only a matter of time before the deal is completed.

Porto had previously turned down bids lower than Dalot's release clause but after United finally made their move, they've come to the realisation that they're powerless to stop the youngster from making his next move. "It's been a year and a half now", he added.
