Adams was on a flight from Fort Lauderdale to Atlanta to catch a connecting flight to Mississippi's capital city.

Dr. Adams intervened when a passenger became ill during the flight, Delta said in a statement to CNN.

On Wednesday Jerome Adams, the USA surgeon general, tweeted that Delta staff on his flight to Jackson, Mississippi, asked if there was a doctor on board to assist in a medical emergency.

The #USPHS to which he referred is the United States Public Health Services Commissioned Corps. He said the person is now doing well.

After tweeting about the incident, Adams added in a Facebook post that he was one of three medical professionals on board the flight who helped the patient.

The department of Health and Human services did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
