Cantonal police in Ticino are not commenting on the fatal accident which is one of three incidents involving Tesla cars in recent days.

The incident involving the Tesla Model S occurred on May 11 in South Jordan, Utah, when an unidentified 28-year-old female ran a red light and crashed into the back of another vehicle at 60 miles per hour.

"What's actually unbelievable about this accident is that a Model S hit a fire truck at 60 miles per hour and the driver only broke an ankle". The 28-year-old driver of the vehicle told police in suburban Salt Lake City that the system was switched on and that she had been looking at her phone before the Friday evening crash.

Tesla's chief executive Elon Musk has told staff the firm is undergoing a "thorough reorganisation" after two of its cars were involved in crashes last week.

News of the crash came as a top Tesla official who had been the main technical contact with us safety investigators left the company to join rival Waymo.

The Tesla driver, who claimed to be using the autosteer feature, was transported to hospital with a broken right foot, while the driver of the vehicle that was hit was checked for injuries related to whiplash but not admitted for further checks.

Reuters recalls that Elon Musk mentioned reorganization during Tesla's Q1 earnings conference call, but at that time, Musk did not go into details.

"We have increased our estimate for Tesla's capital raising from $2.5bn to $3.0bn, which we continue to expect in 3Q18", he said.
