Jason Witten expected to retire, join 'Monday Night Football', according to ESPN

Cowboys tight end Jason Witten recently said he plans to play until he's 40.

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Witten had a meeting scheduled with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones today to inform him of the decision.

The news on the second day of the draft could affect Dallas' plans just a week after Witten suggested he might play until he was 40 and meant to return this coming season. Whereas Witten has been a shell of his former self in recent years, he's still been a productive tight end in Dallas. He now ranks 2nd all-time among National Football League tight ends in terms of receptions and receiving yards, trailing only Gonzalez. I would not have come up with the retirement of Jason Witten. "We don't think we're going into a season without a good tight end".

Cowboys fans inside their home stadium sprinted towards the exits on Thursday night following their team's first-round draft pick. He is second behind Gonzalez in career receiving yards and Pro Bowl appearances by a tight end. "I met with him as late as just a few hours ago, and we've had great discussions".

Wenger: timing of Arsenal departure not my decision
He's still got great knowledge of the game, players will still look up to him, when he leaves he'll stay in contact with them. Later on Wednesday, Wenger moved to clarify he did not have an issue with the timing - just that it was not his decision.

"His expectations and his standards, you'll miss one of the guys who was one of the first ones there and one of the last ones to leave", Prescott said on NFL Network, via Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News.

There's little doubt that Witten is a future Hall of Famer, as he's put up ridiculous numbers during his career.

Witten has tormented the Giants throughout his 15-year career, catching 154 passes and scoring 15 touchdowns against Big Blue - more than any other opponent he has faced. "He's really a tough guy, he's an fantastic guy and we're lucky to have him". According to NFL.com, Gathers only has pre-season stats, and has not played during the regular season.
