Afghan officials say the toll from a suicide bombing in Kabul claimed by ISIS has risen to 57 dead and 119 wounded. This senseless violence targeting innocent civilians exercising their fundamental democratic rights exposes the savagery and inhumanity of terrorists.

The first of Monday's near-simultaneous attacks in western Badghis province hit army units in the district of Ab Kamari, killing nine soldiers, said Ghulam Sarwar Haidari, the deputy provincial police chief. The blast occurred in front of a local school where a voter registration site is located.

Sunday's attack took place when a suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt, blew themselves up near the election facility in the west of Kabul - an area mostly populated by Shi'ite Muslims, according to UNAMA.

Shortly after the Taliban said it was not behind the attack, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) claimed responsibility. Also, in the explosion committed by a suicide bomber in the crowd celebrating Nowruz, near the state University hospital of Ali-Abad in Kabul, killing at least 26 people.

In January, more than a hundred people were killed when an ambulance auto bomb was detonated outside the country's former interior ministry building in Kabul.

A statement issued by the president's office condemned Sunday's attack and quoted President Ashraf Ghani as saying such "terrorist attacks" won't prevent people from participating in upcoming parliamentary elections. Millions are yet to register, and if they don't, the vote is likely to be delayed.
