Yarmouth police dog Nero recovering

He pleaded not guilty to murder at Barnstable District Court on Friday.

A man described by authorities as a career criminal is heading to court to face a murder charge in the shooting death of a MA police officer.

Fallen Yarmouth Police Officer Sean Gannon's K-9 Nero was back on his paws over the weekend.

Nero, who was shot in the head and neck, was stabilized at the scene of the Marstons Mills shooting by the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team and then taken to an emergency veterinary facility.

Nero was shot in the face and shoulder and underwent surgery.

Over the weekend Yarmouth police posted a picture of Nero walking.

On Saturday, an update on Nero's condition was posted to the GoFundMe page "Yarmouth K-9 Officer Sean Gannon".

Yarmouth Chief Frank Frederickson said the 8-year veteran, was a "wonderful young man" with a promising career ahead.
