Vettel Wins Bahrain F1, Lewis Hamilton Concerned About 2018 Title Race

Lewis Hamilton has said that his collision with Max Verstappen during the early part of the 2018 Bahrain Grand Prix "didn't feel like a respectful move". If (McLaren's) Fernando (Alonso) was in their vehicle, he would have got points for Red Bull.

The Dutchman divebombed Hamilton on the run down to Turn 1 on the second lap of the race - but with Hamilton attempting to stick it out on the outside, the pair eventually made contact exiting the corner, with Hamilton's wing clipping Verstappen's rear tyre.

But to the surprise of the journalist, Vettel jumped to Hamilton's rescue asking if he could answer the question. "It's not fair", said the German, who has had run-ins with Verstappen.

"Hopefully when we go to the next race we'll have a better understanding of the tyres and hopefully put up a better fight with the Ferraris".

"Do you think comparing to football, if you have a microphone on a football player's mouth, that everything he says is something nice and is a nice message when the guy tackles him and maybe sometimes he fouls him or not?" I think to myself if Fernando [Alonso] was in that vehicle today he would have finished a decent race and got points for Red Bull.

"If you are just out of the vehicle, you are still full of adrenaline".

"But he continued to come across and that didn't leave me any room and we ended up touching..."

But Hamilton said a more experienced driver would have brought the auto home.

'Sometimes I feel it's all a bit blown up and artificial if we have these questions, trying to make a story out of nothing. "And obviously he's tending to make quite a few mistakes recently, so it was just unnecessary for him to do that".

The Mercedes driver escaped without damage, but Verstappen suffered a broken wheel and a puncture, while a differential failure caused his retirement.

"It was hard racing", said the Red Bull boss.
