After getting bail on Blackbuck poaching case, Salman Khan reaches Mumbai

Khan, accompanied by bodyguard, Shera, landed at the General Aviation Terminal of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai and drove straight to his home.

After being convicted in the case, Khan spent two nights in the Jodhpur Central Jail.

Salman, 52, tensed but smiling, gave a flying kiss to his fans from the balcony of the Galaxy Apartments at Bandra in Mumbai.

The actors were accused of poaching a blackbuck, an endangered species protected under the Indian Wildlife Act, in Kankani village of Jodhpur during the shooting of film Hum Saath Saath Hain in September, 1998.

Some tried to cling to the sides of his sports utility vehicle and scores of motorbikes followed Khan as he was driven at high speed to Jodhpur airport to a waiting chartered jet. The community has pursued the case against Khan for nearly two decades and cheered the decision by setting off firecrackers near the courthouse and handing out candies. The heavily muscled actor was acquitted in two related cases.

Khan did not attend the bail hearing but prosecutor Mahipal Bishnoi said the actor must appear in court again on May 7. He had been sentenced to prison terms of between one and five years in related cases before being acquitted by appeals courts for lack of evidence.

Khan has faced other charges in the past.

Along with Khan - who was last seen in the movie Tiger Zinda Hai - actors Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre and Tabu, were among the six co-accused in the case.

Khan remains one of Bollywood's biggest draws despite the off-screen drama, starring in more than 100 films and television shows.

The government of Maharashtra state has challenged that acquittal in the Supreme Court.
