John Bolton plans to fire dozens of White House officials

President Trump has outdone himself, having picked one of the most unsafe, warmongering, racist and, frankly, asinine characters in Washington's foreign policy establishment to replace H.R. McMaster as national security adviser - John Bolton. His influence in high-level decisionmaking had waned in recent months, as Trump has increasingly relied on the direct counsel of General Kelly and Secretary Mattis.

Commentators said last week when Bolton was named that it signaled a toughening of Washington's stance on Tehran and another nail in the coffin of the Obama-era agreement between Iran and world powers to limit Tehran's nuclear ambitions, already cast into doubt by Trump himself.

In March 2015, Bolton wrote an op-ed in the New York Times titled "To stop Iran's bomb, bomb Iran". The announcement was made yesterday, effective April 9.

And The Diplomat noted that the timing is odd, coming as it does two weeks after Trump accepted an invitation from Kim Jon-un for a historic US-North Korea summit.

Bolton, known for his walrus moustache, is a fierce North Korea hawk who, in his prolific writings and television commentary, has said that preemptive war would likely be the only way to stop North Korea from obtaining the capability to attack the U.S. with a nuclear missile.

The new national security adviser has also been outspoken on his attacks of treaties and global institutions, among them the Kyoto climate convention and the worldwide Court of Criminal Justice, and the United Nations, the very organisation to which he was ambassador. (Twisting the intelligence to suit policy preferences is another hallmark of Boltonism.) The Republican national security dis-establishment, which includes Trump's new designee to be Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, has militarized nonproliferation diplomacy, replacing it with heavier sanctions and confrontational postures based on threats to use force and the ultimate sanction - the use of force.

Afghanistan Wins Cricket World Cup Qualifying Tournament
We have the highest respect for them, but at the same time, we will not be overawed by them and will try to win tomorrow. But as we bring down the curtains to a topsy-turvy qualification campaign, here's what we can take away from it.

Craig Bellamy sets Liverpool FC challenge for Mohamed Salah next season
Craig Bellamy believes Mohamed Salah needs to aim for at least 20 goals in his second Premier League season at Liverpool FC. Salah, unlike Philippe Coutinho who was desperate to join Barcelona, will not be tempted to join the Brazilian in La Liga.

"What the North Koreans have wanted for a long time is just assurance confirmed by the Six Powers Agreement - with China and Russian Federation and Japan and South Korea and so forth - that the United States will not attack North Korea as long as North Korea stays at peace with its neighbors", Carter said.

Announcing his decision, Trump thanked Herbert Raymond McMaster for his service, praising his "outstanding job" in his role as the National Security Advisor.

"What the North Koreans have wanted for a long time is just some assurance that the United States will not attack North Korea as long as North Korea stays at peace with its neighbors", Carter said, according to USA Today. "The timeline was expedited as they both felt it was important to have the new team in place, instead of constant speculation", a White House official said.

Among other predictable consequences will be a comparable hardening of Democratic and other anti-Trump folks looking to the Mueller investigation, and to the congressional midterm elections in November, to find a way to short-circuit Mr. Trump's presidency. This work and those achievements will ensure that America builds on its economic and military advantages. But my sources say that at least at the outset, Bolton plans to rein those in - aiming to be seen more as an honest broker for the war cabinet, and less as blatant advocate. "Throughout my career it has been my greatest privilege to serve alongside extraordinary servicemembers and dedicated civilians", McMaster said in a statement released by the White House. Also in Bolton's crosshairs are personnel associated with his predecessor, H.R. McMaster. Bolton served as ambassador to the United Nations under President George W. Bush.

Earlier this year, Mr. Bolton on Fox News called for USA withdrawal from the nuclear arms agreement with Iran, saying "our goal should be regime change" there.

The positions that Bolton holds on these topics will come into play as events unfold through his time on the National Security Council.
