A stunt featuring a scantily clad woman riding bareback on a white horse has prompted officials to shut down a nightclub in the USA state of Florida.

"What kind of idiot would do something like to this to an animal?" said Miami Beach mayor Dan Gelber at a press conference earlier today.

"You guys are absolutely disgusting allowing animal cruelty inside your club", one user posted.

Police are now investigating the incident.

CBS4 also received images from viewers that appear to show a camel and another horse inside the club on different occasions, the station reports.

"We are very concerned over the allegations", Officer Ernesto Rodriguez said of the incident to Miami New Times.
