Was The Theft Of Frances McDormand's Oscar A Publicity Stunt?

A man accused of stealing Frances McDormand's Oscar from an after party has a long history of theft convictions, a court was told.

He allegedly swiped McDormand's best actress Academy Award as she celebrated at the Governors Ball on Sunday night. He was captured on the AP video holding it proudly over his head and saying, "All right baby boys and baby girls".

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office told KOIN 6 News 47-year-old Terry James Bryant was arrested 7 times between 1999 and 2002.

Brazil said she was concerned by Bryant's four prior felony convictions on theft-related charges and his past failures to appear in court, which prosecutors argued should keep the bail unchanged. McDormand's rep Simon Halls revealed in an email to Variety that she followed up the somewhat upsetting after-party experience by celebrating the reunion with a double cheeseburger from In-N-Out.

This year's best actress Oscar victor Frances McDormand's trophy was briefly stolen at the official after-party, following which a man suspected of stealing it was arrested.

Bryant is expected to be arraigned in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom on Wednesday.
