More snow and ice warnings have been issued for the United Kingdom, as forecasters warn the country's chilly weather could last all month.

Forecasters have warned that the wintry conditions could continue for the rest of the month.

The alert, which covers Shropshire and Mid Wales as well as much of the north of England and Scotland, is valid from just after midnight until midday on Friday.

"A few showers of rain, sleet and hill snow will follow, possibly giving a slight covering of snow over higher ground".

The severe snow and ice warning for the rest of the United Kingdom, excluding easternmost parts, will remain in place until midday on Friday.

Issued by the meteorological office this morning (Thursday, February 8) at 8:00am, the weather warning will come into effect tonight at 9:00pm and will last until 9:00am tomorrow morning.

Travel disruptions are expected, including delays in bus and train services and road closures.

The forecaster is warning of scattered snow showers this Thursday night with accumulations of less than 3cm.

Tonight it will be cold with mainly clear skies but a widespread frost will be felt throughout the city. "2-5 cm of snow may accumulate above 100 m with some snow to low levels too". Further outbreaks of rain and drizzle in the south and east will occur through the course of the day, turning heavy at times.
