Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu arrived in Tehran for an official visit on Wednesday and before meeting Iran's president, he met and talked with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Presidents of Turkey, Iran and Russia, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Hassan Rouhani and Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting in Istanbul, Turkish media reported February 8.

President Rouhani hailed two countries' high-level talks on the expansion of bilateral, regional and worldwide cooperation, saying that the two governments are willing to develop and strengthen relations as two friendly and brother neighboring countries. But along with Iran they have sponsored a series of meetings - held mainly in Kazakhstan, but most recently in Sochi, Russia, in late January - that they say are aimed at ending the conflict.

The three countries, now in the throes of the Syrian civil war as President Bashar al-Assad's backers, held a meeting late last year and a peace conference earlier this year in the Russian resort city of Sochi.

The Iranian president further underlined the need for boosting trilateral ties among Iran, Turkey and Russian Federation and welcomed an upcoming meeting in Istanbul between the three countries' presidents on the Syria crisis.
