Bioware's Anthem Will Launch in Early 2019; New Battlefield Coming This Year

The official line is that EA has chosen to launch Anthem early next year because it will be releasing a new Battlefield game in October. For some reason EA doesn't reveal its user figures for this title, despite them being revealed to PCGamesInsider.biz during an interview previous year and EA PR trying to get us to remove them from story.

In its press statement (via Seeking Alpha), EA make sure to emphasise that while Anthem is being given more time in the oven, the company is "not looking at that as a delay". But even as it confirmed the new date, EA denied Kotaku's report, saying that the change has nothing to do with development being behind schedule. Battlefield 1 landed in October 2016 and EA DICE's other shooter, Star Wars Battlefront saw a release in September 2014 and November 2017 too.

The move comes during a weird week of news for EA but is pretty significant as the picture of the second half of 2018 becomes a tiny bit clearer.

So, for those who hoped there'd be more news around a "Battlefield 2", you may well be disappointed to hear it's the same news we've known about for the last six months. "We are really confident of its ship date", said EA boss Andrew Wilson during a company investors call. Anthem was supposed to hit in fall of 2018, though a specific release date was not specified. Though EA claimed the studio's last game, "Mass Effect: Andromeda", was a financial success, its reputation is mostly that of a game so widely reviled and ridiculed that it killed a one-mighty franchise. Until then, I pose the question to you; where would you like to see the next Battlefield game take place?

As for the new Battlefield game, not much is known at this point, such as the setting or plot.
