Bay Area serial stowaway arrested at Chicago airport

The next day, Hartman managed to get past British Airways ticket agents and onto a plane, prosecutors said.

However, this is not the first time that Hartman has been detained for trying to bypass airport security in the USA and claimed she may have boarded planes without a ticket eight times.

This time around, Marilyn Hartman, 66, successfully made it all the way from Chicago O'Hare International Airport to London's Heathrow Airport on Thursday night, NBC Chicago reports. She also reportedly told news outlet NBC5 in December 2015 that she "may have" snuck onto planes eight times.

She was then put on a flight back to Chicago and charged with felony theft and misdemeanor criminal trespass. She was jailed in Chicago that same year for trying to bypass security at the city's two major airports.

After her arrest last Monday, Hartman, known as the 'serial stowaway, was flown back to the USA on Thursday, where she was charged with criminal trespass and theft.

She landed on Monday, Jan. 15, before being detained by British Customs officials and sent back to Chicago on Thursday, Jan. 18.

She apparently tries to blend in with large groups to get past airport security, according to previous reports.

The US Transportation Security Administration is investigating how she keeps managing to sneak past customs staff.

In a statement, the TSA said they are "working closely with our law enforcement and airline partners in that effort". "I can't figure out why that is".

In 2016 she pleaded guilty to a trespassing charge and was sentenced to six months at a mental health facility, after she was found at a bus terminal at O'Hare.

"And it's not as if she is, 'Catch me if you can.' It's nearly like, 'Just come catch me, ' " Assistant State's Attorney Jeff Allen told reporters during the hearing.

According to CBS sources, CCTV cameras captured Hartman, of Hamelitz Court in Grayslake, U.S., as she wandered around the airport for two days without being confronted by security.

Hartman claimed that people - airport security, public transit passengers, jail inmates, President Barack Obama - have all conspired to compel her to sneak onto planes in an elaborate attempt to punish her, and then allow her to escape lengthy prison sentences so she can do it all over again, and again.
