Today the highly coveted North American Car, Utility and Truck of the year awards were announced.

Thanks to the Accord, Honda won awards for three years straight.

The 2018 North American Car of the Year was the redesigned 2018 Honda Accord, a sedan that marries drivability, styling and technology in near-perfect harmony.

The Auto Show is open to the public January 20-28, 2018. The newest Accord, the nameplate's 10th generation, was praised in particular for looking low and sleek but surprising with more room than its predecessor.

In the truck category, the Lincoln Navigator fended off a fraternal challenge from its cousin, the Ford Expedition, with the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 performance pickup splitting the cousins and keeping things close, losing to the Lincoln by just a dozen votes, 212 to 200.

Voting for the Car, Utility Vehicle and Truck of the Year began in June 2017, where three rounds of voting narrowed down nine finalists and three winners.

The Volvo XC60 is the latest model the auto company has constructed using its new four-cylinder-only concept. The judges loved the impact of the Navigator's looks and the effect this has on the rest of Lincoln's lineup. Accord was the first model from a Japanese automaker to be made in America, beginning in November 1982 in Marysville, Ohio, with cumulative USA production of Accord exceeding 11 million vehicles over more than 35 years.
