Ex-employees File Discrimination Lawsuit Against Claiming Google

The author of a controversial memo that sparked debates about gender and diversity at Google sued his former employer on Monday alleging that the company discriminates against politically conservative white males. He's not alone in this claim as another ex-employee from Google, David Gudeman, has lent his support to Damore's cause. The lawsuit contains dozens of pages of internal Google communications that the lawsuit alleges show bias at the company.

"Google's management goes to extreme - and illegal - lengths to encourage hiring managers to take protected categories such as race and/or gender into consideration as determinative hiring factors, to the detriment of Caucasian and male employees and potential employees at Google", the suit reads. The memo in which he criticized the company's hiring practices, and claimed that disparities between men and women in the technology industry were at least partially due to behavioral differences between those genders due to biology, led to his firing from the company in August.

The suit claims white men were booed at company-wide meetings: "Not only was the numerical presence of women celebrated at Google exclusively due to their gender, but the presence of Caucasians and males was mocked with "boos" during company-wide weekly meetings".

In August, Google CEO Sundar Pichai wrote in a memo to employees that the tech firm fired Damore because he violated the company's code of conduct, which states that Googlers should "do their utmost to create a workplace culture that is free of harassment, intimidation, bias and unlawful discrimination".

In a press conference with his attorney on Monday, Damore said Google employees "felt like they couldn't talk about anything".

Google did not immediately respond to request for comment.
