Cam Newton Famous CTE Expert Calls BS ... That's a Concussion
The Carolina Panthers have come under fire after quarterback Cam Newton returned to Sunday's game after seemingly being knocked out - without being put through the NFL's newly-enhanced concussion protocol.
The NFL's new concussion protocol, implemented on December 11, included the notice that the league will 'require a locker room concussion evaluation for all players demonstrating gross or sustained vertical instability (e.g., stumbling or falling to the ground when trying to stand)'.
Head coach Ron Rivera and interim general manager Marty Hurney both said Monday they believe the Panthers acted properly after Newton took a big hit to the head in the fourth quarter of the 31-26 loss to New Orleans.
Newton absorbed a hard hit by Saints defensive tackle David Onyemata on a sack. He was replaced by Derek Anderson, and, as he moved toward the sideline, Newton went to the ground and appeared to be pointing toward his right eye.
Ultimately, Jordan does have a lot of respect for Newton, who is one of the hardest quarterbacks in the National Football League to corral, although the Saints star sacked him once on Sunday, batted down two passes, forced a pivotal intentional grounding penalty and helped Vonn Bell clean up Newton on the game's final play.

Jordan said the hit that Newton absorbed was significant.
This is the second time this season the Panthers are being investigated for their handling of Newton as it pertains to the concussion protocol. The odd thing about that is that Newton was wearing a visor. "But again, I'm not the doctor", Rivera said. He said after the game the issue was with his eye, not his head. "We're going to send him a nice little bottle of Jordan wine".
"Yeah, you know, Carolina picked him up so the brothers could reunite", Jordan said.
"I don't think so".
