Kabul blast: Death toll rises to 20

AFP quoted a security source as saying 20 people had been killed in the attack, which occurred about 8:30 p.m. local time.

The attack took place near a security establishment at Banaee area of the city in the evening.

The death toll from an Islamic State-claimed suicide attack in Kabul has risen to 13, officials said Friday, adding to the carnage caused by the militant group in the Afghan capital.

In a statement Thursday, President Ashraf Ghani called the attack "inhumane" and against the tenets of Islam.

Witnesses told RFE/RL that the blast could be heard throughout the capital.

The blast happened close to a group of security personnel who were carrying out an operation against illegal drugs and alcohol dealing, officials said.
