"'Game of Thrones' will return for its six-episode, eighth and final season in 2019".

When season seven ended late a year ago, an all-time high of 12.1 million viewers tuned in.

The seventh season ended last August with an average of more than 30 million USA viewers per episode across multiple platforms. Last year, actress Sophie Turner revealed that the final season will return only in 2019, however, this is the first time HBO has officially confirmed it.

Executive producers include Benioff and Weiss, as well as Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doegler, and Bernadette Caulfield, while Game of Thrones author George RR Martin will be co-executive producer, along with Cogman, Guymon Casady, and Vince Gerardis.
