Nintendo Switch Now the Fastest-Selling Home Console in US History

The Wii previously held the record with around four million units sold in the same time frame, and in comparison the PS4 sold 3.95 million units in the first 10 months, so the hybrid console is doing very well against its competitors, it would seem. That's the highest total for the first 10 months of any home video game system in U.S. history, eclipsing the more than four million Wii systems Nintendo sold in the same amount of time more than a decade ago.

And in terms of recovery from the Wii U era, Nintendo's previous home console sold 7.3 million units over its first 10 months. It was followed closely by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild (owned by 55% of Switch owners/2.6 million copies), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (owned by 50% of Switch owners/2.4 million copies), and Splatoon 2 (owned by 20% of Switch owners/almost a million copies).

As you might expect, the president and COO of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aimé, was more than happy to chime in on today's announcement. Microsoft and Sony have not yet released holiday sales numbers for their consoles, but they are not expected to outperform the Switch.
