But the National Weather Service in Duluth said the real danger in coming days will be extreme cold temperatures and wind chills, with frostbite and hypothermia possible on Christmas Day in just a few minutes.

Christmas Day will be partly sunny with a high near 35 and a low of 18. Normal highs are near freezing.

"The air mass is borderline cold enough for snow", the Weather Service said in a statement.
