Director Bryan Singer fired from Freddie Mercury biopic

20th Century Fox has fired director Bryan Singer from its Queen biopic, "Bohemian Rhapsody", the studio confirmed to Business Insider. This was a very taxing experience, which ultimately took a serious toll on my own health.

Director Bryan Singer was sacked from the upcoming Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, the Hollywood Reporter reported on Monday, December 4. The two were said to have settled their differences, but Singer's vanishing act for the past almost two weeks was the final straw for Fox film chair and CEO Stacey Snider, who fired Singer on Monday.

"'Bohemian Rhapsody' is a passion project of mine", Singer said via his attorney Andrew B. Brettler.

"Twentieth Century Fox Film has temporarily halted production on Bohemian Rhapsody due to the unexpected unavailability of Bryan Singer", reads Fox's full statement.

Singer failed to return to work on the Queen biopic, which features award-winning "Mr. Robot" star Rami Malek as the iconic frontman and rock legend Freddie Mercury, after Thanksgiving break. There's about two more weeks of filming scheduled, but a replacement director has not been announced yet. This meant that his cinematographer Thomas Newton Sigel had to step into the helm some days while Singer was absent.

Malek apparently complained to the studio about Singers unreliability and unprofessionalism.

Actor Tom Hollander, who plays Queen manager Jim Beach, actually quit the movie because of Singer's behavior, but was eventually persuaded to return to the production. It was at this time Fox made a decision to fire him under his pay-or-play contract.

With only two weeks of filming left a new director is expected to be named soon. Bohemian Rhapsody is slated for a Christmas Day release in 2018.

Prior the firing, Singer already received a warning from both Fox Film chairman and CEO Stacey Snider and voce chairman and president of production Emma Watts that they won't tolerate any unprofessional behavior on his part.

One source told THR that Singer claims to be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, due to on-set tensions.

Also, Singer's production company Bad Hat Harry has been removed entirely from the Fox production offices, following decades of profitable work, especially involving the X-Men franchise, of which Singer had directed four of the entries.
