Using the UP results at a rally in Gujarat, BJP national president Amit Shah said, "Whatever has happened in Uttar Pradesh is nothing compared to what is going to happen in Gujarat on December 18".

According to a statement, the party said the BJP won 14 out of 16 contests for mayor as the voting was done through EVMs, while the party had won fewer seats for other posts where the voting was by ballot paper. As a matter of fact, BJP fared rather poorly in some of the semi-urban areas, where it had to remain content with barely 100 seats of Nagar Panchayat chairman, while independents gave everyone a beating by grabbing as many as 182 seats.

"Interestingly, where the polls were conducted through EVMs, the victory percentage of BJP was 46 but where it was carried through ballots, it was 15 per cent,"he said". The BSP managed to bag two mayoral seats of Aligarh and Meerut but the Samajwadi Party and the Congress drew a blank.

Over 500 EVMs out of more than 30,000 deployed in UP civic polls had to be replaced this time.

A resurgent Mayawati challenged the BJP and said that her party would sweep the 2019 Lok Sabha polls if voting is done on ballot papers. Therefore, it may not be all that simple for chief minister Yogi Adityanath to even maintain the 2014 Lok Sabha tally of 73 (including 2 allies), not to talk of his much touted proclamation, "We will win all of UP's 80 Lok Sabha seats in 2019". Aam Adami Party spokesperson Sanjay Singh has also blamed the EVMs misuse behind the success of ruling party' victory.

Sanajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, who have been the state's chief ministers, also claimed the BJP perpetuating the "EVM fraud" to win the elections.

Even in Nagar Palika Parishads, the Independents have won 3,380 wards while the BJP bagged just 922 wards. "And it was because of the EVMs that Mayawati came to power in 2007 in UP, while Akhilesh emerged victorious in 2012". State BJP chief Mahendra Nath Pandey said, opposition parties were indulging in propaganda only to hide their disappointment following the electoral losses. The voters have given a befitting reply to the baseless allegations levelled by them.
