Skyview High School thanks local veterans with a special assembly

Irving Elementary School will host a Veterans Day assembly from 8:30-9:30 a.m., which will include music and a recognition of veterans in attendance. Batavia resident Jack Roderick said he served in the Navy for 12 years and regularly attends the Veterans Day program at West Aurora. Information is available from the individual schools.

The Wasilla High School Air Force Junior ROTC opened up the program with a Color Presentation that displayed their pride of wearing military uniform.

"When I came home, we were not celebrated", said Michael Elterman, Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. The students and staff work really hard on this every year. "That's a tradition that should be maintained". "So, we appreciate their efforts in honoring the veterans". "We couldn't have done a lot of this without their support". "Most young people have no idea what those people did over 70 years ago".

"I did what any one else would have done", he said. "We just hope they know we're thinking about them and we appreciate their service".

The Su Valley Jr/Sr High School Symphonic Choir sang with the Talkeetna Elementary 3rd-5th grade students in the patriotic song, "Stars and Stripes".
