Jay-Z: Meek Mill Prison Sentence 'Unjust and Heavy-Handed'

Interestingly, both charges against him were dropped, but the judge says that by simply being arrested in the first place, he was violating his probation.

A USA judge has sentenced rapper Meek Mill to at least two years in jail for violating probation, a surprisingly harsh verdict that stunned the hip-hop world.

Meek also addressed his 2015 legal woes, when he was facing jail time for violating probation for traveling without permission and submitting a dirty urine sample.

Hours after the sentence was handed down, Jay-Z took to Facebook to speak out against what he thought was "unjust" treatment. And while I agree with the mogul's assessment that Meek's sentence is heavy-handed, I'm not sure I'm willing to go to bat for it being unjust.

He was arrested twice in 2017, including for a March fight in a St. Louis airport (the charges were later dropped in exchange for community service).

Goff threw three touchdowns in the first half, finishing with 311 yards passing in arguably his best game as a pro. Higbee, not normally used as a receiver, opened the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown grab 4:05 into the contest.

Judge Brinkley deemed the arrests a violation of his continued probation, and sentenced Williams to two to four years, saying, "I gave you break after break, and you basically just thumbed your nose at this court". She said Mill's sentence would be served in state prison, where he would be eligible for state parole supervision after two years. We will not be hearing any news about him for quite a while, unfortunately.

That kind of support may not ensure that Mill will get out of jail without serving his complete sentence, but it does add to the impression that when he does, there will still be an audience waiting for him.

"More proof that our criminal justice system is a joke", Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Torrey Smith commented.

In recent years, the 4:44 rapper has become an even louder advocate against the disparities suffered by black men by the American justice system.

Comedian Kevin Hart and fellow emcee T.I. both posted messages of support for Meek on Instagram. "God sometimes puts the toughest battles on his strongest shoulders".
