The movie is set for a July 2019 release and Favreau has already been in pre-production with Jeff Nathanson writing the script. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. Scar, Mufasa's brother-and former heir to the throne-has plans of his own.

The new cast will join Donald Glover (Solo: A Star Wars Story) as future lion king Simba in the adaptation.

Beyonce posted an image of the cast on social media to confirm her involvement in the highly-anticipated live action remake.

Every Disney king needs a queen, and The Lion King just landed the best one yet.

The Formation singer will voice Nala, Simba's childhood friend, who later becomes his wife. Comedians Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen will voice everyone's favorite meerkat and warthog duo, Timon and Pumbaa, respectively.

How is the Lion King being remade?

The 1994 animated version was a smash success, and the re-imagined live-action film should also be quite the thrill.

An official synopsis teased that the remake will "utilise pioneering filmmaking techniques to bring treasured characters to life in a whole new way".

The movie is the follow-up to Favreau's semi-live action remake of "The Jungle Book", which came out past year.
