As yet no statement has been issued by the recovered journalist or her family. It was believed that Shahzadi "forcibly disappeared" while she was working on Hamid Ansari's case. It has been revealed that some non-actors and enemy agencies had kidnapped her back then.

According to reports says Zeenat Shahzadi, a 26-year-old reporter of Daily Nai Khaber and Metro News TV channel, was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified men while she was on her way to work in an auto rickshaw from her home in a populated locality of Lahore on August 19, 2015. "I don't even know what what condition she was in for the past two years and what she might have gone through", Ms. Ansari said.

Tribal elders of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan played a key role in her recovery, Iqbal said.

However, fellow journalist Beena Sarwar while quoting Iqbal, in her tweet confirmed Shehzadi's return.

Zeenat who went through the trauma of living in captivity of intelligence agencies of Pakistan has finally been recovered after two years reportedly from near Pakistan-Afghanistan border. After obtaining a special power of attorney, she had been working relentlessly for his release till she disappeared in August 2015. With the help of social media, she was able to contact Ansari's mother in India and filed a case with the Supreme Court on her behalf. It was later reported that the court sentenced him to three years in prison on the charges of espionage and illegally entering Pakistan.

Shahzadi's brother Saddam Hussain had reportedly committed suicide in March a year ago.

According to Zeenat's family, she had been receiving threatening phone calls asking her not to pursue Ansari's case before her alleged enforced disappearance. She informed Ansari's mother in Mumbai about Ansari's custody with police. "My sister is missing and my younger brother (Saddam) who was deeply attached to her hanged himself after losing hope to get reunited with her", Shahzadi's brother Salman Latif had told PTI.
