Country Duo Big & Rich Describe Horrific Las Vegas Shooting: 'It Was Hysteria'

"I think we all know that without men and women who are willing to fight for our freedoms in this country, we don't get to assemble like this and have insane country music concerts in the middle of Las Vegas, Nevada".

The veteran Nashville musician said he and the band's crew had just loaded up their tour buses and pulled down the street to play at an after-party when the shooting began.

John explained, "We played the show about 90 minutes before Jason Aldean (who was onstage when the shooting started)".

Though they didn't know it at the time, Big & Rich 's room at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino was very near the one occupied by alleged shooter Stephen Paddock. "I was able to get one guy on the phone, Dee Jay Silver..." Glad he did, he said, 'They just threw me in the back of a pick up and we're racing down the road getting everyone out of here.' Found out his son, 6-months-old son, and nanny were sleeping in the room next door to the shooter on the 32nd floor. "And to know that, you know - that was it, that was his last moments on earth".

Big added, "Every room in that hotel practically had the most stellar views of the venue". I was watching all the fans coming into the festival.

"Come on, Vegas, sing!" the band said. "Now, it's just shock and just heartbroken". "There were people weeping, sobbing screaming".

Police said they believed Paddock acted alone. "We will continue to march forward with our music". But you don't stop what you are doing.

"And music is maybe the only thing out there - I mean, I used to think it was music and sports, and now sports is divisive, the way they're handling that - but now it's really music", Rich said, apparently referring to the recently revamped controversy over whether or not sports players protesting against racial injustice should kneel during the National Anthem before games.

"They were on it quick", Kenny noted, insisting the ordeal hasn't broken his spirit: "Fear will not overcome us", he says.
