North Korea: Otto Warmbier died of oxygen-starved brain, coroner says

His healthy skin and body weight suggest he had "round the clock care" in North Korea - even while in a coma, Sammarco said.

In addition to the exam, the coroner reviewed medical records and spoke with his physicians at UC Medical Center.

A Hamilton County coroner's report dated September 11 shows cause of death as brain damage from oxygen deprivation through "an unknown insult more than a year prior to death".

During the interview, they attacked North Korea, saying: "North Korea is not a victim".

Warmbier was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labor after being convicted of trying to steal a propaganda poster from his hotel.

"Although we had no reason at all to show mercy to such a criminal of the enemy state, we provided him with medical treatments and care with all sincerity on a humanitarian basis until his return to the USA", the North argued after Warmbier's death.

The Cincinnati Enquirer cites Hamilton County forensic doctor, who claims that Warmbier's teeth were intact, and the student have died because of the lack of oxygen in his brain.

Warmbier's parents declined to have an autopsy done after he died in June.

Mexico shaken by new quake that swayed buildings and paused rescue efforts
The first days saw a dramatic scramble with picks, shovels and bare hands to reach survivors, and well over 100 were saved. But that means almost 1,000 were found uninhabitable - and the number seemed likely to rise as more are inspected.

When asked by a reporter for her thoughts on the statements made by Warmbier's parents Tuesday, Sammarco said, "They're grieving parents".

Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco, whose office performed the exam, was surprised when she heard the Warmbiers' comment about "rearranged" teeth. They're terrorists." Fred Warmbier, Otto's father, added: "They kidnapped Otto.

The manner of death was "undetermined".

Warmbier's body had multiple scars varying in size, including a large irregular one measuring 4.3 by 1.6 inches on the right foot, the report said.

His body was found to be that of a "well-developed, well-nourished adult man" with several identifying marks and scars and some evidence of medical therapy, such as a catheter and a scar consistent with that of a tracheostomy. They said Warmbier, a 22-year-old University of Virginia student, was howling, making an "involuntary, inhuman sound", "staring blankly into space jerking violently", and was blind and deaf with his head shaved.

"It seemed like someone took a pliers and rearranged his teeth".

The North Korean government claim that Warmbier contracted botulism while in custody and then slipped into a coma after taking a sleeping pill. "Otto was tortured beyond belief by North Korea".

When he arrived in OH, he was transported by ambulance to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where doctors discovered he had "severe injury to all regions of the brain" and described his current condition as "unresponsive wakefulness".
